It makes it possible to push the GPU to the max in order to test the stability of the graphics card (and the PSU too!) leading to maximal GPU and VRM Both versions of that heat generator are maintenance releases, read no new features but support of latest graphics cards or minor changes. Will fix it for the next release. Hypothesis #3: Loading the GPU is somehow causing the CPU to lose enough power to become unstable.
After removing HDD and graphics cards, MemTest 4.0a STILL got "screen garbage" running from the motherboard DVI… AND Cyber tech support STILL tried to blame Windows, graphics card, the HDD, etc! Seriously ? Prime95 includes three different "torture" tests. While a handful of programs are available that can stress your CPU to its limits, Prime95 has become the de facto standard. SpeedFan does the same, though its interface isn't quite as polished as HWMonitor's.

You can fry your components if a worst-case scenario occurs and you're not paying attention.
Forgot to mention, the GPU might not have been overheating, but the Vram might have been. Data became corrupted and the video card started sending out erroneous data, which caused Furmark to crash. The system returned: (22) Invalid argument The remote host or network may be down. Prime95 was the only one that complained and most people on their OC guides didn't even use prime95 saying that it created an "unrealistic workload".
Stress-testing software places your components under an intense workload to simulate a worse-case scenario; if a component crashes, hangs, or otherwise fails a dedicated stress test, there's a good chance that FurMark 1.6.5 Won the OpenGL Fight Against Catalyst 9.1!
