For some reason, this fails with a variety of errors on this machine. I do my own compilation of more openelec do not know how to compile version 7, always falls in version 8.0! It is booted from a (lfs) CDROM which contains the tools and the packages to build the target. I think this creates the NAND update package.

What version of gcc are you using for building the toolchain? Try setting RUBY_BUILD_BUILD_PATH to a temporary directory on another partition.
